My role as a Student Brand Marketing Manager for TinderU was my first hands-on introduction to building a brand presence on a college campus — and it quickly became one of the most energizing and creative experiences of my college career.

Tinder was looking for students who were deeply plugged into campus life, and the role challenged me to think like a marketer, a strategist, an event planner, and a campus influencer all at once. My job was to make TinderU feel everywhere at UCF — integrated into student culture, social clubs, nightlife, and everyday moments.

What I Did

As part of this role, I:

  • Created campus-specific goals, strategies, and tactics to increase TinderU enrollments among UCF students.

  • Managed a $2,000 marketing budget and partnered with popular local businesses to incentivize downloads and boost engagement.

  • Executed 10+ in-person activation events, from tabling to themed pop-ups, before COVID-19 shifted the program to virtual.

  • Represented TinderU at EDC, passing out merch, engaging festival attendees, and driving awareness outside the traditional campus space.

  • Collaborated with campus groups and influencers, integrating TinderU into student life through partnerships, giveaways, and creative campaigns.

  • Created social content that authentically blended TinderU into everyday student culture while staying on-brand.

  • Provided product and brand feedback, reporting KPIs, photos, and insights directly to the Tinder U team.

  • Stayed connected through bi-weekly virtual meetings and regular communication via Slack, Google Hangouts, and Excel.

What I Learned

This role pushed me to be:

  • Resourceful and creative — constantly coming up with new ideas that would resonate with students.

  • Data-minded — tying each activation to KPIs and using reporting to refine future strategies.

  • Relationship-driven — building partnerships with campus organizations and local businesses taught me how to collaborate, negotiate, and drive mutual value.

  • Adaptable — when COVID shut campuses down, I shifted from in-person events to online engagement and virtual brand-building.

The Impact

By the time the program transitioned to virtual, I had built strong brand visibility for TinderU at UCF, executed more than ten activations, and helped drive app awareness and enrollment during a key growth period for the platform.

This role showed me how much I loved brand marketing — especially grassroots, community-focused experiences — and it became a foundational stepping stone for the work I’ve taken on since.
